Buckeyes Win Great Lakes Division Championship!

The Buckeyes hosted the 2017 CWPA Great Lakes division championship on Oct. 21-22. The winner of the 9-team tournament would qualify for the Collegiate Club National Championship on Nov. 10-12.

The Scarlet (A) Buckeyes started off their championship run against the University of Dayton. Eager to execute to their full potential, the Buckeyes jumped out to an early lead and defeated the Flyers 18-3. This led to a semifinal matchup with the Cincinnati Bearcats where the Buckeyes took care of business, winning 13-4. The victory set up a championship rematch against Grand Valley.

In the championship game, the Buckeyes found themselves in a defensive battle but built a 3-0 lead at halftime. The defense continued in the second half, but the Buckeyes traded goals back and forth with the Lakers, ending in a 5-3 win for the Buckeyes. This is their third championship in the past five years. The Buckeyes will enter the Collegiate Club National Championship as the #9 seed.

The Gray (B) Buckeyes also competed in the division championship tournament. Their first game was against the #2 seed Grand Valley State. After holding the Lakers scoreless in the first quarter, the Buckeyes couldn't keep up, ultimately falling 2-10. Their second game was against Miami, where the Buckeyes looked to avenge a 3OT regular season loss to the Redhawks. In a game full of defense, the Buckeyes couldn't pull off a victory and fell 3-4. Sunday was much more fruitful for the Buckeyes, as they dispatched Xavier 13-5 and Dayton 12-3 to finish seventh in the conference.
